If at eighteen one is mature enough to marry, vote, fight in the military, buy cigarettes, and have a gun, does it not seem natural that he or she be able to drink? The set drinking age of twenty-one not only is ineffective, but it further harms the public health of our country and has allowed us to develop a toxic culture when it comes to alcohol. The time has come to lower the drinking age and nail the real root of the problem.
